A RESOLUTION COMMENDING WILLIAM R. (BILL) MINOR FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEGISLATIVE RECORD AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, State Senator William R. (Bill) Minor, a Democrat from Holly Springs, Mississippi, is completing 20 years of outstanding, dedicated service representing District 2 (Benton, Marshall, and Desoto Counties); and
WHEREAS, in Bill Minor, the residents of District 2 are losing an honest, dependable, effective State Senator, and the residents of Mississippi are losing 20 years of effective Senate experience, leadership and unquestioned integrity; and
WHEREAS, Senator Minor is in his second term as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, is former Chairman of the Senate Public Utilities Committee and has served with distinction on virtually every Senate committee, including: Appropriations, Education, Rules, Judiciary, Corrections, Fees, Salaries and Administration, Highways and Transportation, Public Health and Welfare, Elections, Joint Legislative Budget, this committee experience representing substantial legislative leadership and influence; and
WHEREAS, Senator Minor was known for his strong, forceful debating style on the floor of the Senate, and he rarely lost a bill which was reported from his committee; and
WHEREAS, Senator Minor's views on legislative issues were never in doubt, you "knew where he stood", and he was the original Chairman of the "Killer Bee" subcommittee in the Education Committee when Senator Jack Gordon was Chairman; and
WHEREAS, Bill Minor was born on October 16, 1942, in Hickory Flat, Mississippi, attended Hickory Flat High School and Northwest Community College; he is a partner in Minor Brothers Hardware and Minor Brothers Plumbing & Heating; he is an active member of the Baptist Church, a 32d Degree Mason, a Shriner and member of the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce; he is a backbone of charitable, civic and economic development efforts across his district and has personally handled numerous economic development initiatives benefiting the entire State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Bill Minor has provided firm, effective and constructive leadership coupled with a keen understanding of the issues facing Mississippi and a passion about the Senate as an institution; and
WHEREAS, Senator Minor has indicated that he will retire at the expiration of his present term in order to run for State District office, and the members of this Senate wish to express sincere appreciation to him for his many outstanding accomplishments and his record of dedicated public service:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend our friend, colleague and Chairman, Bill Minor, for all that he has meant to the Mississippi Senate and his unmatched contributions to the people of the State of Mississippi.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Bill Minor and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
