A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING, CONGRATULATING AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO JAMES WORTH BAGLEY, A GRADUATE OF MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, FOR HIS MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO THE UNIVERSITY'S COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING.

     WHEREAS, James Worth Bagley has pledged a contribution of $25 Million to be used to enhance the College of Engineering at Mississippi State University; and

     WHEREAS, this gift from James and Jean Bagley is the largest in the history of Mississippi State University and will create an endowment to improve facilities, support faculty recruiting and development, graduate fellowships and special activities, and encourage additional contributions to the College of Engineering; and

     WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning has approved the naming on November 15, 2002, of the college as the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering; and

     WHEREAS, Mississippi State University becomes one of approximately twenty universities in the nation with a named college of engineering; and

     WHEREAS, James W. Bagley received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering at Mississippi State University in 1961 and earned a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering at Mississippi State University in 1966; and

     WHEREAS, James W. Bagley is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Lam Research Corporation, a leading global supplier of silicon wafer processing systems used to manufacture semiconductor integrated circuits and a major supplier of many of the world's top chip makers; and

     WHEREAS, James W. Bagley is a veteran of the semiconductor industry, having served in executive and management positions with OnTrak Systems, Inc., Applied Materials, Inc., and Texas Instruments; and

     WHEREAS, James W. Bagley serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Micron Technology, Inc., Teradyne, Inc., and Wind River Systems, Inc.; and

     WHEREAS, James W. Bagley is an individual of high character and the university and the state can be proud to have his name associated with a premier academic program such as the Mississippi State University College of Engineering:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend, congratulate and express appreciation to James Worth Bagley for this important contribution to the future of Mississippi State University and the entire State of Mississippi and its people.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be furnished to James Worth Bagley and Mississippi State University.
