A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING MRS. FANNIE LOUISE MCGEE JACKSON UPON HER RETIREMENT AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE HINDS COUNTY COMMUNITY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Fannie Louise McGee Jackson, a native of Terry, Mississippi, is a true pioneer in the field of human and cultural services and civil rights, and serves as a tribute and shining example of leadership and generosity to Hinds County and its citizens; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson is one of seven children of Sevy and Lucille Jones McGee.  She received her elementary education at Terry Grove School in Terry, and continued her education at Alexander Colored High School in Brookhaven, Mississippi, where she graduated with honors.  She received a scholarship in Music to attend Jackson College, graduating with a certificate in Music.  While attending the Alexander Colored High School, she met and fell in love with Judge Marvin Jackson.  After the completion of her educational goals, she and Mr. Jackson were married.  She is the proud mother of seven children:  Charles H. Jackson, Judge Marvin Jackson, Virginia Jackson Terry, Denise Jackson, Lawrence Alexander Jackson, Derrick Jackson and Cornell Slaughter.  Mrs. Jackson also reared her nephew, Vernon Bozeman, and niece, Barbara Johnson Ojelida.  She is the doting grandmother of 23 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson's contributions span many areas of service to the community.  In the late 1960s, she became involved with Community Action Agencies, from which the Hinds County Project Head Start and the Terry Community Service Center were created.  Her associations include serving on the Board of Directors for Central Mississippi Legal Service, Hinds County Project Head Start, Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, Central Mississippi Family Health Center, Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, Golden Key Senior Citizen Center, Tri-County Senior Citizens Board, Hinds County Public Schools PTSA Advisory Counsel, Martin Luther King

Breakfast Celebration in the Terry Community, Neighborhood Watch Program, NAACP and Friends of Terry Committee.  In recognition of her dedicated humanitarian services, Mrs. Jackson has been the recipient of the Honorary Colonel Award from both Governor Bill Waller and Governor Bill Allain, as well as other awards and honors which are far too numerous to list.  She has spent a lifetime dedicated to promoting and preserving the culture, diversity and humanity of our community; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson is a born-again Christian and is a faithful member of Collis Hill Church of Christ Holiness, U.S.A., in Terry, Mississippi.  She has held numerous positions in the church district, including President of the Christian Women Willing Workers, Treasurer for the Christian Women Willing Workers, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Senior Choir, First Vice President of United Christian Women Missions, Kitchen Committee, Building Committee and a member of the Wisdom Team:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That in appreciation and acknowledgement of her service for the betterment of our community, we do hereby congratulate Mrs. Fannie Louise McGee Jackson, a woman of great integrity and high ideals, for her many achievements and dedicated service to Hinds County, Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Jackson and her family, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
