Senate Resolution 25

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. SINCELL PLATTS FOR HER WORK WITH THE HANDICAPPED.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sincell Platts has devoted twenty years to exercising the mind and bodies of handicapped individuals through dance; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sincell Platts began with 12 residents of the Mississippi Cheshire Homes of Harrison County, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, this first group of square dancers was known as the Cheshire Promenaders; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sincell Platts' first dance group was so successful that the group now consists of 50 members residing along the Gulf Coast; and

WHEREAS, the name of the Cheshire Promenaders was changed to the Gulf Coast Western Variety Dancers to reflect the growth of the number of members and the different styles of dances performed by the group; and

WHEREAS, this local group of remarkable dancers are also members of the U.S. Handicapable Square Dance Association, and attend national conventions; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sincell Platts was ably assisted by her assistant and husband of 56 years, Mr. Fred Platts; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sincell Platts has helped raise public awareness of the abilities of handicapped individuals; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate of the State of Mississippi to recognize the noteworthy contributions of the citizens of the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Sincell Platts for her work with the handicapped and for raising the public's awareness of the abilities of these individuals.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Sincell Platts.
