A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MR. JOHN SELF AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY.

     WHEREAS, Mr. John Self, a native of Winona, Mississippi, departed this life on July 28, 2002, causing great loss and sorrow to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. John Self had just graduated from high school in Westwood, California, and was only 19 years of age at the time of his untimely death; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. John Self was an employee of the U.S. Forest Service on fire duty when he was killed in the line of duty in the Klamath National Forest; and

     WHEREAS, on Arbor Day, February 14th, a tree will be planted in honor of the memory of Mr. John Self; and

     WHEREAS, the legacy and memory of Mr. John Self will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him, especially his family:  mother, Genia Self; father, Johnny Self; brothers, Waylon Self and Gerald Logan; sisters, LaQue Self, Samantha Self and Leslie Logan; and maternal grandparents, Gene and Faye Palmertree; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate of the State of Mississippi to commend the lives of outstanding Mississippians as Mr. John Self, who lost their lives in serving and protecting others:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mr. John Self and express our deepest sympathy to his family.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mr. John Self.
