A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF LONGTIME SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR AND EAST CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER ALBERT F. HOLLINGSWORTH OF LAKE, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, on February 27, 2003, God in His infinite wisdom and love called from our midst Albert F. Hollingsworth; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hollingsworth was a graduate of East Central Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, he served in the United States Navy and the United States Marines in World War II; and
WHEREAS, he served as Principal of Lexie School from 1946-1951 and was named Principal of Lake High School in 1959, where he served until 1967; became Superintendent for Scott County Schools in 1967, a position he held until retiring in 1986; and served as President of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents from 1981-1982; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hollingsworth served as an exemplary member of the East Central Community College Board of Trustees from 1967 until 1986 and from February 1988 until February 2003, serving with diligence and sincerity until the time of his passing; and served very effectively as Chairman of the East Central Community College Board of Trustees from January 1975 through December 1981; and
WHEREAS, through his vision and his diligence, Mr. Albert F. Hollingsworth made an invaluable contribution to the growth and development of East Central Community College; and
WHEREAS, he distinguished himself as a community and religious leader, was a former member of the Forest Kiwanis Club, member of the American Legion Post #9, the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, member of the First Baptist Church in Lake, Mississippi, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and was a former church Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Albert F. Hollingsworth was regarded with respect and esteem by all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Albert F. Hollingsworth's love, devotion and service to his own family was never swerving but was a steady guiding light to his wife and to his children; and
WHEREAS, in his passing, East Central Community College lost a former student, board member and officer, and a dear friend; Scott County and Lake, Mississippi, lost a neighbor and the State of Mississippi suffered the distinct loss of an outstanding citizen:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of longtime School Administrator and East Central Community College Board Member Albert F. Hollingsworth of Lake, Mississippi, as a model of civic service, and express to his surviving family the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Mr. Hollingsworth and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
