A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HILLCREST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL COUGARS VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2002-2003 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI PRIVATE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION OVERALL TOURNAMENT.

WHEREAS, the 2002-2003 Cougars Varsity Boys Basketball Team consists of the following players: Seniors: Wes Burleson, Michael Case, Drew Delaughter, Walker Moller, Aaron Parker, Chris Posey, Wes Prather; Juniors: Tyler Lum, Chandler Pleasant, Jack Weimer; Sophomores: Nick Burcham, Kyle Cauthen, Will Harris, Cody Satterwhite, Jay Taylor; and

WHEREAS, the Cougars have been superbly coached by Head Coach Penn Majors and Assistant Coach Jeremy Bowen, who have broadened the Cougars knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Hillcrest Christian School Cougars Boys Varsity Basketball Team finished the 2002-2003 season with a record of 25 wins and 9 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Cougars won the 2003 Mississippi Private School Association South AAA Tournament and placed third in the 2003 Mississippi Private School Association State AAA Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Cougars won the 2003 Mississippi Private School Association Overall Tournament, as well as the 2000 and 2001 Mississippi Private School Association Overall Tournaments; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including Wes Burleson, Walker Moller, Chris Posey and Wes Prather being named to the Overall All-Tournament Team and Wes Burleson, Walker Moller and Chris Posey being named to the Mississippi Private School Association All-Star Basketball Team; and

WHEREAS, the Cougars have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Hillcrest Christian School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hillcrest Christian School Varsity Boys Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Penn Majors and Assistant Coach Jeremy Bowen, for their outstanding 2002-2003 season, for winning the 2003 Mississippi Private School Association Overall Tournament and for displaying tireless efforts to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Hillcrest Christian School, Head Coach Penn Majors and Assistant Coach Jeremy Bowen, and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
