A RESOLUTION COMMENDING ALL SAINTS' EPISCOPAL SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS OF PROVIDING OUTSTANDING EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, All Saints' Episcopal School is a small, independent, coeducational, college preparatory school for boarding students in Grades 8 through 12 and day students in Grades 7 through 12; and
WHEREAS, All Saints' welcomes young people from a wide variety of ethnic, racial, religious, economic, social and geographic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, the school was first envisioned by the Right Reverend William Mercer Green, the first Episcopal Bishop of Mississippi, who in 1860 determined the need for a diocesan school for girls; and
WHEREAS, in 1908, Bishop Theodore Dubose Bratton, Mississippi's third Episcopal Bishop, established All Saints' Episcopal College as an all girls college, and in 1971, All Saints' became a coeducational boarding and day institution for secondary school students; and
WHEREAS, throughout the many years of providing education, All Saints' has been dedicated to nurturing the intellectual, physical, spiritual and social growth of its students in a lovingly structured environment; and
WHEREAS, located in the historic City of Vicksburg, All Saints' is situated on forty acres of landscaped hills with campus buildings that curve in an arc around a dell in which the Olympic size swimming pool and recreation center are located; and
WHEREAS, All Saints' Episcopal School is owned by the Episcopal Dioceses of Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Western Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, representatives from those dioceses, including their bishops, along with All Saints' Rector and Head, comprise the twenty-member board of trustees; and
WHEREAS, All Saints' Episcopal School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and holds memberships in the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, the Southern Association of Boarding Schools, the National Association of Boarding Schools and the College Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by outstanding schools such as All Saints' Episcopal School, which has committed itself to providing outstanding educations to many young people:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do commend All Saints' Episcopal School for many years of providing outstanding educations and express our warmest wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to All Saints' Episcopal School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
