House Resolution 33

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. WILLIAM G. MUNN FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE.

     WHEREAS, Dr. William G. Munn, son of the late F.T. and Effie C. Munn, has dedicated many years of outstanding service to the people of his community; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Munn, affectionately know as "Billy George" as a young boy, was raised in Mendenhall and loved to hunt, fish and play ball; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from Mendenhall High School as valedictorian at the age of 16, Dr. Munn attended the University of Mississippi, where he majored in pre-medicine and received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in 1960; and

     WHEREAS, a loyal patriot to his country, Dr. Munn served in the United States Army and as a Captain was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, where he completed his internship; and

     WHEREAS, after completing his internship, Dr. Munn moved to the Panama Canal Zone to complete his residency before moving home to begin his practice in September 1963; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Munn practiced medicine in his hometown for many years, having been offered many opportunities to accept more lucrative offers in specialty practices; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Munn has served as Chief of Staff at Simpson General Hospital for many years, where he has improved the services and programs for the people of Simpson County; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Munn was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Mendenhall Chamber of Commerce; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Munn has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wife and high school sweetheart, the former Betty Sue Cockrell; their children, Jon Alan, Jennifer, Janna and Jason, who was stillborn; and eight grandchildren, Bethany, Ben, Bradley, Bayleigh, Emily, Will, Wes and Reagan; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Dr. Munn who has dedicated his life to improving the quality of health care for the people of Simpson County:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Dr. William G. Munn for his many years of outstanding service and express our heartiest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. William G. Munn and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
