A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. J.B. CARTER, JR., ON HIS RETIREMENT AND OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Mr. J.B. Carter, Jr., a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, was educated in the Pascagoula Public School District and received a bachelor's degree from Tougaloo College, and he taught school for six years before entering the private and public sectors; and
WHEREAS, a pioneer in the Civil Rights Era, Mr. Carter integrated the Mississippi Employment Security Commission Office in Pascagoula, as the first Black employment interviewer in 1966; and
WHEREAS, with over forty years of management experience, Mr. Carter has been employed with the Jackson County Justice Court as a court administrator since 1994; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Carter has made worthy contributions that have positively affected the Gulf Coast area and other states, by serving as a board member for the Moss Point School System, chairing a biracial committee that oversaw the successful integration of the schools in Moss Point, serving as a Jackson County Election Commissioner and representing the Seventh District for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he coordinated chapters in Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, continuing his drive to make worthy contributions, Mr. Carter currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Asbury Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and is a member of the Advisory Boards for the Gulf Coast Community College Vocations Programs and the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Jackson County; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Carter realizes the importance of assisting children and has served as a mentor for a local mentoring program and he and his wife were foster parents for two children for the Jackson County Youth Court; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Carter has received many honors, such as the Pas-Point Jaycees Distinguished Service Award and being listed in Who's Who in the South and Personalities of the South; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize an individual, such as Mr. Carter, who is retiring after many years of service and for his contributions made to his community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. J.B. Carter, Jr., upon his retirement and outstanding community service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. J.B. Carter, Jr., and the Capitol Press Corps.
