AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 911, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1995, TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF JONES COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO INCREASE, FROM ONE DOLLAR TO TWO DOLLARS, THE AMOUNT OF THE ASSESSMENT FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE JUSTICE COURT OF THE COUNTY AND PAID TO JONES COUNTY CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; TO IMPOSE A TWO DOLLAR ASSESSMENT IN THE COUNTY COURT OF JONES COUNTY AND PROVIDE THAT THE ASSESSMENT BE PAID TO JONES COUNTY CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Chapter 911, Local and Private Laws of 1995, is amended as follows:

     Section 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Jones County, Mississippi, is authorized, in its discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not exceeding Two Dollars ($2.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the justice court or county court of the county.

     (2)  The avails of the assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid to Jones County  Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Jones County, Mississippi.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
