Senate Resolution 21

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF EMMA JEAN BODDIE AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE SENATE.

WHEREAS, Emma Jean Boddie was born on April 11, 1942, to Mamie L. Brown and the late Joseph Brown, Sr., in Mound Bayou, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean Boddie accepted Christ as her personal Savior on August 8, 1950, and was baptized at the Evergreen M.B. Church; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean Boddie attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from McEvans High School in Shaw, Mississippi, on April 28, 1960; and

WHEREAS, after graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, and attended modeling school; and

WHEREAS, she met Claud E. Boddie, Sr., and they were married on August 4, 1962; and

WHEREAS, to the union of Emma and Claud were born five children: Tracey, Claud, Elliott, Megan and Kimberley; and

WHEREAS, in 1971, Emma Jean and Claud moved back to Cleveland, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean worked faithfully for Delta Community Health Center for 26 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1971, Emma Jean joined the Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean was active in her community and church; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean expressed her commitment and dedication to her faith and church through her untiring service as Secretary for the Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, Secretary of the Choir, Chairperson for the Annual Women's Day Program and Secretary for the Bolivar County Baptist Association; and

WHEREAS, her commitment to the community led her to serve on the Democratic Election Committee and coach the Cleveland All-Star Girls Softball Team; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean Boddie is survived by her devoted husband, Claud E. Boddie, Sr., and children, Tracey B. Sanders, Claud E. Boddie, Jr., Elliott Jermal Boddie, Megan R. Boddie and Kimberley B. Proctor; loving mother, Mamie L. Brown; and loving mother-in-law, Marie Boddie; and

WHEREAS, Emma Jean leaves a legacy of spiritual commitment and dedication to helping others which is evidenced by the number of lives that she touched:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Emma Jean Boddie, and express the sympathy of the Senate to her family and friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the family of Emma Jean Boddie.
