A RESOLUTION URGING THE LEGISLATIVE BUDGET COMMITTEE TO PROPOSE A BUDGET FOR FY2004 WHICH FULLY FUNDS THE MISSISSIPPI ADEQUATE EDUCATION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Legislature made a commitment to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program when it overrode the veto of Governor Kirk Fordice in the First Extraordinary Session of 1997; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Legislature made a commitment to fund a series of annual pay increases for public school teachers in the First Extraordinary Session of 2001; and
WHEREAS, the time has come for this Legislature to keep those commitments:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That in Fiscal Year 2004 the Mississippi Adequate Education Program should be fully funded and the next installment of the teacher pay plan should be fully funded, and that other funding for public education should not be reduced to fund these programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Legislative Budget Committee should propose a budget for Fiscal Year 2004 to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program.
