AMENDMENT No. 1 TO AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO

                             House Bill NO. 1783

                             By Senator(s) Blackmon, Horhn, Jackson, Johnson(38), Simmons, Walls

     AMEND by inserting the following after line 71 and renumbering subsequent sections:

     SECTION *.  Of the funds appropriated under the provisions of Sections 1 and 2, the Mississippi Department of Transportation shall transfer to the Department of Finance and Administration whatever sums as are determined necessary by the State Fiscal Officer, not to exceed Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00), to pay and defray the expenses associated with providing access to and the use of state agencies, employees, resources and materials by individual members of the Mississippi Legislature and the public incurred in their drafting of legislative redistricting proposals, whether for the purpose of introducing legislation, amendments or proposed redistricting maps as an alternative to any such legislation proposed or introduced by the Joint Legislative Committee on Reapportionment.  It is the intention of the Legislature that any such amounts authorized under this section shall be available for expenditure in the period beginning upon passage and ending on June 30, 2003.
