A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MOST REVEREND WILLIAM HOUCK UPON THE OCCASION OF THE GOLDEN JUBILEE OF HIS ORDINATION TO THE PRIESTHOOD OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.
WHEREAS, the Reverend Bishop William Houck was ordained to the Priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church on May 19, 1951, and celebrated his Golden Jubilee on May 29, 2001; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Houck was installed as the Bishop of the Diocese of Jackson in the State of Mississippi on July 5, 1984, having served as auxiliary since 1979; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop serves as the head of Catholic Charities for Mississippi, overseeing all of the charitable activities of the Diocese of Jackson; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop's leadership in the civic and charitable activities of his city and state are a matter of record, and it is with great pride that we recognize the service of this citizen who has brought honor to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the many years of service that the Reverend Bishop William Houck has given to the people of Mississippi on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of his Ordination to the Priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church and of his 22 years of service as the Bishop of the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Bishop William Houck and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
