A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JIM PAGE FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER AS HEAD BASEBALL COACH FOR MILLSAPS COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, Jim Page begins his 14th season as Head Coach of the Millsaps College Baseball Team with a career mark of five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Titles and two trips to the NCAA Division III National Championships; and
WHEREAS, Jim Page, a native of Woodbridge, Virginia, was a four-year standout of the Millsaps Baseball Team from 1982-1985, and was twice selected as the team's Most Valuable Player, winning the award in his sophomore and senior seasons; and
WHEREAS, in his senior season, Jim Page hit a clip of .489 and led the team in home runs, his .489 batting average still standing as the Millsaps baseball single season hitting record; and
WHEREAS, during Page's thirteen years as Head Coach, the Millsaps "Majors" have developed a reputation as being one of the best Division III Teams in the South Region; and
WHEREAS, as of March 28, 2002, the Millsaps Baseball Team is 17-4 in the 2002 season, ranked 30th in Division III and fifth in the South Region; and
WHEREAS, Jim Page's coaching record stands at 302-198-1, good enough for placing him among the top 30 active Division III coaches in career wins; and
WHEREAS, for his efforts, Jim Page was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 seasons; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, Millsaps made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament, posting a 25-13 record and finishing 21st in the nation; and
WHEREAS, Jim Page graduated from Millsaps with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Jim Page is married to the former Cindy Yarbrough of Meridian, Mississippi, a 1988 Millsaps College graduate, and they have four children; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend accomplished Mississippians as Jim Page, whose distinguished career brings great pride to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Jim Page for his outstanding career as Head Baseball Coach for Millsaps College and wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Jim Page and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
