A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. VIRGINIA STRICKLAND ROGERS ON THE CELEBRATION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Virginia Strickland Rogers, a resident of Como, Mississippi, will celebrate her 100th birthday on February 5, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers is an active member of Cistern Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she serves on the Mother Board and participates in the February Birthday Club; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers has also been active in her community as an active registered voter and a former Grand Marshal in the Como Christmas Parade; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers is a retired food service worker and is known throughout the community as the "snowball lady"; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rogers was united in Holy Matrimony to the late John Rogers and was blessed with a daughter, the late Mrs. Annie Lee Little; a son-in-law, George Little; 10 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 35 great-great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature finds it most appropriate to recognize and pay special tribute to outstanding citizens such as Mrs. Virginia Strickland Rogers, a self-dependent person who stays active in her church and community and working in her garden:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate Mrs. Virginia Strickland Rogers on the celebration of her 100th birthday.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Virginia Strickland Rogers and made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
