Senate Resolution 11

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE ANTHONY THOMAS UPON BEING SELECTED BELLSOUTH MALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AT THE 2001 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Anthony Thomas was selected as the BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Thomas has competed in the State Games of Mississippi for eight years as a soccer player, and was a member of the Meridian U-14 soccer team, winning a gold medal in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Thomas competed in the 1st annual Clash of the Champions Tournament winning a gold medal in the U-14 under-age division; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Thomas participates in athletics for the positive influence, sense of accomplishment and as a means of building his character in a spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Thomas' positive attitude and sportsmanship are evident in all phases of his life; and

WHEREAS, the BellSouth Sportsman of the Year award honors the foremost male and female sportsman of the year who represent the true spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Thomas was selected Male Sportsman of the Year not only for his athletic accomplishments but also for his exemplary sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the meritorious achievements of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That the Senate does hereby commend and congratulate Anthony Thomas for his accomplishments and for being selected as the 2001 BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Anthony Thomas and his family, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
