A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE WANDA MCALISTER UPON BEING SELECTED BELLSOUTH FEMALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AT THE 2001 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister was selected as the BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister has been engaged in the State Games Mississippi equestrian event for two years; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister first competed in the State Games of Mississippi in 2000 in the Dressage competition; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister finished with a Gold Medal in her age division in the Training Level competition in 2001; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister is actively engaged in equestrian, training her first pony at the age of six and competing in equestrian events ever since; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister loves sports and participates for the sheer joy of it; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister exhibits tremendous sportsmanship toward all participants; and

     WHEREAS, the BellSouth Sportsman of the Year award honors the foremost Male and Female Sportsman of the Year who represent the true spirit of competition; and

     WHEREAS, Wanda McAlister was selected Female Sportsman of the Year, not only for her athletic accomplishments, but also for her exemplary sportsmanship; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the meritorious achievements of the citizens of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Wanda McAlister for her accomplishments and for being selected as the 2001 BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Wanda McAlister and her family, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
