A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE PELAHATCHIE HIGH SCHOOL CHIEFS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Pelahatchie High School Football Team finished the 2001 season with an outstanding record of 13 wins and 1 loss; and
WHEREAS, the Pelahatchie Chiefs fought and defeated three undefeated teams on the path to the 1A State Championship, winning also the South Mississippi State Championship and finishing as runner-up in the regional championship; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including: Kingi McNair, All-State; Buck McNair, All-State; Lonnie Collier, All-State; Steven Johnson, All-State; and Tyrone Nelson, All-State; and
WHEREAS, honorable mention should be given to all seniors on the team: Kingi McNair, Tyrone Nelson, Steven Johnson, Corey Collier, JeQuin Harper, Jack Watson, John Stokes, Lonnie Collier, Buck McNair, Shelby Henry and Craig Stewart; and
WHEREAS, the Pelahatchie Chiefs have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Bill Ward and Assistant Coaches Larry Harms, Ed Jones and Tony Holeman; and
WHEREAS, the Pelahatchie Chiefs have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players, their coaches and school; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That
we do hereby commend the Pelahatchie High School Football Team for their outstanding season and for winning the Class 1A State Championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pelahatchie High School, to each coach and member of the Pelahatchie High School Football Team, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
