A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. STEPHEN E. AMBROSE UPON RECEIVING THE 2002 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD OF THE GOVERNOR'S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS.
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose is the recipient of the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award of the Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose is a distinguished historian and acclaimed author; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose has skillfully told of the heroic World War II exploits of what has been called the greatest generation; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose has authored a number of books on World War II; and
WHEREAS, among his New York Times' bestsellers are "Citizen Soldiers," "Band of Brothers," "D-Day June 6, 1944: the Climatic Battle of WWII" and "Undaunted Courage"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose was the historical consultant for Steven Spielberg's movie "Saving Private Ryan"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose has participated in numerous national television programs, working with the History Channel and National Geographic; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose is the Director Emeritus of the Eisenhower Center in New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose is the founder of the National D-Day Museum; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose is a resident of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend the noteworthy achievements and contributions of the citizens of the United States of America:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose upon receiving the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award of the Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts and wish him continued success in his endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose.
