Senate Concurrent Resolution 557

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS "CHIEFS" FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR STATE AA CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Magnolia Heights High School "Chiefs" Football Team from Senatobia, Mississippi, won the State AA Championship following an impressive 11 and 2 record for the 2001 season; and

WHEREAS, on their way to the State Championship, the "Chiefs" won the Division 1-AA Championship and the North Region AA Championship; and

WHEREAS, this team produced many outstanding players who earned the following individual honors:

All Conference - District 1-AA: Chance Williams, Buster Shoemake, Walker Suddoth, Josh Irvin, David Reed, Lee Powell, Richard Gayden, Justin Delap, Paul Rhodes, Vance Lamar and Levi Lance; District 1-AA: MVP Defense Levi Lance and MVP Offense Lee Powell; All Conference Honorable Mention: Hayes Harris, Drew Warren, Parker Moore, Adam Tindall and Robert Patterson; MPSA All Star: Lee Powell and Chance Williams; and All MPSA 2nd Team Levi Lance, Defensive End; and

WHEREAS, the team is led by Coach Cliff Young, who has been assisted during this championship season by the following assistant coaches: John David Weeks, Jeff Thigpen, Matt Shiflett and Jim Patterson; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the outstanding accomplishments of this group of student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Magnolia Heights "Chiefs" Football Team from Senatobia, Mississippi, for their State AA Championship and for their outstanding 2001 season, and wish them continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Magnolia Heights "Chiefs" Football Team and Coach Cliff Young, be forwarded to the Headmaster of Magnolia Heights High School, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
