House Resolution 79

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PETAL HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM ON ITS OUTSTANDING 2000-2001 SEASON AND ON WINNING THE STATE 4A CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Petal High School Golf Team finished the 2000-2001 season with an outstanding record of 12 wins and one loss; and

WHEREAS, the Petal High School Golf Team played exceptionally well in tournaments and playoffs that year, winning the Area Championship and the District Championship before capturing the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State 4A Championship; and

WHEREAS, many members of the golf team received recognition for their hard work, dedication and superior play last season, including: Shea Magee, Matthew Shoemaker, Jess Helton, Matthew Langford, Shane Murphy, Taylor Brinkley, Justin McNamera, Justin Villareal, Matt Rainey and Derrick Roberts; and

WHEREAS, the Petal High School Golf Team was superbly coached and inspired last season by Head Coach Bob Byrd and Assistant Coach Victor Shoemaker who broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skill in execution; and

WHEREAS, members of the Petal High School Golf Team have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Petal High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Petal High School Golf Team and their coaches, Bob Byrd and Victor Shoemaker, on their outstanding 2000-2001 season and on winning the MHSAA State 4A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion in all their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Petal High School, Head Coach Bob Byrd, Assistant Coach Victor Shoemaker and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
