House Resolution 73

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NEW ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL LADY BULLDOGS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING 2001-2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE 3A CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the New Albany High School Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team completed the 2001-2002 season with an outstanding record of 34 wins and only six losses; and

WHEREAS, during the season, the Lady Bulldogs won several tournaments including the New Albany Invitational Tournament Champions, Walnut Invitational Tournament Champions, Union County Tournament Champions, Division 1-3A Tournament Runner-up, North State 3A Consolation Champion and State 3A Tournament Champions; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors were bestowed among several team members such as: the naming of Ellen Buchanan to the All-State, All-North Half and Division 1-3A All Tournament Team; the selection of Kristin Ivey to the All-State, All-North Half and Division 1-3A All Tournament Team; the naming of Staranna Frazier to the All-State, All-North Half and Division 1-3A All Tournament Team; the selection of Jazz Watson to the All-North Half and Division 1-3A All Tournament Team; and the naming of Mallory Sanford to the Division 1-3A All Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bulldogs have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Chuck Poer and Assistant Coach Mike Hearn, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bulldogs have developed a cooperative attitude and winning spirit that brings great honor to their coaches and New Albany High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the New Albany High School Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team, Head Coach Chuck Poer and Assistant Coach Mike Hearn for their excellent 2001-2002 season, for winning the State 3A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Principal of New Albany High School, Head Coach Chuck Poer and Assistant Coach Mike Hearn and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
