A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MR. ETHAN A. MOORE AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, Mr. Ethan A. Moore, a native of Lauderdale County, Mississippi, departed this life on March 17, 2002, causing a great loss to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, at the young age of ten, Mr. Moore sensed the blessing a caring funeral director could be to a grieving family and began to feel the tug of God's calling him to meet the needs of grieving families; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore was a loyal patriot for his country as he joined the United States Army Air Corps in World War II and was assigned to a B-17 Bomber crew and flew combat missions in Europe as a gunner and radio operator; and
WHEREAS, after returning from the war, Mr. Moore began his long career in funeral service at Webb Funeral Home in Meridian on September 1, 1946; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore remained at Webb Funeral Home for 13 years, serving as the manager from 1951 to 1959; and
WHEREAS, in 1959, with nothing more than a loan from a personal friend, Mr. Moore purchased a small neighborhood funeral home in Hattiesburg; and
WHEREAS, throughout his 57-year career in the funeral home business, Mr. Moore has served as President of Moore Funeral Service, President of Home Security Life Insurance Company, former President of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association, former Treasurer and board member of the International Order of the Golden Rule; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore received formal education from Meridian Junior College, Gettysburg College, Gupton/Jones College of Mortuary Science and the National Foundation of Funeral Service School of Management; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, where he served as an ordained Deacon and many other leadership positions; and
WHEREAS, in addition, Mr. Moore served as a former board member of numerous organizations, including the Board of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Forrest County Industrial Board, Hattiesburg Board of Directors for Trustmark National Bank, United Way, Hattiesburg Country Club, American Red Cross and the Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore was married to Ann Ash Moore, and was the father of three sons, Steve and Greg, both of whom have major roles in the funeral-related services, and Dr. David Scott Moore, an anesthesiologist; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. Moore, who dedicated his life and career to helping and comforting hundreds of families during their time of loss:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mr. Ethan A. Moore and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Ethan A. Moore and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
