A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. DAISY SCRIBNER MONAGHAN UPON THE CELEBRATION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.
WHEREAS, Ms. Daisy Scribner Monaghan, born on March 29, 1902, in Lee County, Mississippi, will be celebrating her 100th birthday on March 29, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Monaghan was the youngest of eight children born to the late Sam Scribner and Eler Payne Scribner, a prominent family of Lee County who owned and farmed the lands of Southeast Lee County; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Monaghan attended the public schools of Lee County while helping with farming chores as a young girl securing a strong foundation of moral, social and spiritual virtues; and
WHEREAS, in 1922, Ms. Monaghan married Johnny Clinton Monaghan, known as "Kenny," and they became the proud parents of Doris Monaghan Malone and David Monaghan; and
WHEREAS, after only six years of marriage, Kenny Monaghan who was a railroad worker and farmer, departed this life, leaving his wife to raise and support two young children; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Monaghan has exemplified courage, strength and perseverance throughout her long life, relying on strong Christian principals and faith fostered and nourished as a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Plantersville and currently a cherished member of the Palestine Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Monaghan is affectionately known as "Mama Dais," especially by her five grandchildren, Judy, David, Pat, Mark and Mike; her eight living great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Monaghan, an outstanding citizen of Lee County, celebrates her 100th birthday on March 29, 2002, among family and friends who love and cherish her sweet countenance and salute her many contributions to God-loving and -fearing people everywhere:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Daisy Scribner Monaghan on the celebration of her 100th birthday.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Daisy Scribner Monaghan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
