A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHRIST MISSIONARY AND INDUSTRIAL COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL (CM&I) CRUSADERS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2001-2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE ACADEMY OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Christ Missionary and Industrial College High School (CM&I) Crusaders Boys Basketball Team finished the 2001-2002 season with a remarkable record of 32 wins and seven losses; and
WHEREAS, the CM&I Crusaders, ranked No. 2 in The Clarion-Ledger final regular season academy poll, won their first state championship, beating Delta Academy with a 67-57 victory at Mississippi College's A.E. Wood Coliseum before an estimated 2,300 sports fans; and
WHEREAS, the CM&I Crusaders have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Victor Evans, who has broadened the Crusaders' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, in only their second year as a member of the Mississippi Private School Association, Coach Evans led the Crusaders to become the first Class A school to win an overall boys title since 1978; and
WHEREAS, the Crusaders have developed a winning attitude and cooperative spirit, and their activities and attitude reflect great honor upon CM&I High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Christ Missionary and Industrial College High School (CM&I) Crusaders Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Victor Evans for their phenomenal 2001-2002 season, for winning the Academy State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Christ Missionary and Industrial College High School (CM&I), Head Coach Victor Evans and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
