House Resolution 45

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL LADY MUSTANGS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2001-2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE 5A CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Lady Mustangs Basketball Team finished the 2001-2002 season with a remarkable record of 32 wins and three losses; and

     WHEREAS, ranked No. 3 in The Clarion-Ledger poll, the Lady Mustangs finished their sixth straight season with a record of at least 30 wins; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Mustangs won the Class 5A State Championship, beating Murrah High School Lady Mustangs with a 49-46 come-from-behind victory at the Mississippi Coliseum before an estimated 5,000 sports fans; and

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Lady Mustangs have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Anna Jackson, who has broadened the Mustangs' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Jackson has brought additional honor to Murrah High School by becoming the first woman to win five state championships; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Mustangs have developed a winning attitude and cooperative spirit, and their activities and attitude reflect great honor on Murrah High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Murrah High School Lady Mustangs Basketball Team and their coach, Head Coach Anna Jackson, for their phenomenal 2001-2002 season, for winning the Class 5A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Murrah High School, Head Coach Anna Jackson and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
