A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. ANNIE MAE WILSON ON BEING NAMED A STATEWIDE MISSISSIPPI AGELESS HERO.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Annie Mae Wilson, Mayor of the Town of Carrollton, recently was chosen as one of six statewide Mississippi Ageless Heroes; and
WHEREAS, after being a plantation homemaker for over 50 years, Mrs. Wilson, at the age of 71, decided to enter the political arena, seeking a seat on the Carrollton Board of Alderman; and
WHEREAS, victorious in her race, Mrs. Wilson's career as an alderman was short-lived, only to be surpassed by her being elected mayor of Carrollton just 16 months after becoming an alderman; and
WHEREAS, now 74 years old, Mrs. Wilson was chosen from a pool of more than 200 nominees submitted to the Ageless Heroes program sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, which honors those persons age 65 and over who have made significant contributions to the State of Mississippi and their communities; and
WHEREAS, in addition to honoring those persons named Ageless Heroes, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi also donates $1,000.00 to each hero's favorite charity; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson, who has continuously spread cheer throughout her community with her famous rolls and cheese straws, has remained active in her church, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the North Carrollton United Methodist Church and overseer of the church's new building project completed last year; and
WHEREAS, with her personal philosophy on aging being to "Just stay active. The more you do, the more you are able to do." Mrs. Wilson gains assurance in knowing that her faith in God and ability to face each day optimistically will continue to guide her through maintaining an active life of service to the people of Carrollton; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and pay special tribute to remarkable citizens such as Mrs. Annie Mae Wilson, whose outstanding, dedicated public service is an inspiration to all Mississippians, young and old alike:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Annie Mae Wilson on being named a Statewide Mississippi Ageless Hero and extend to her our heartiest wishes for many more years of good health, peace and happiness and success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Annie Mae Wilson, the Town of Carrollton and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
