A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE BOLOGNA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ON WINNING THE 2002 CULTURAL LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS.

WHEREAS, the Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University, in Cleveland, Mississippi, serves as a dynamic cultural resource for the University and the entire Mississippi Delta; and

WHEREAS, the state-of-the-art facility, constructed in 1994 through funds appropriated by the Mississippi State Legislature, offers a rich tapestry of cultural and educational programs for all Mississippians; and

WHEREAS, harboring a diverse repertoire of events, developmental and educational programs and outreach initiatives that contribute to an enhancement in the quality of life, the Bologna Performing Arts Center has made a profound impact on the Mississippi Delta; and

WHEREAS, the Bologna Performing Arts Center performs a full range of performing arts disciplines each season, hosting more than 200 events annually, including the major series of national and international events; and

WHEREAS, fostering the recognition and appreciation of world-class arts programming, the Bologna Performing Arts Center has demonstrated its commitment to arts education for young people in Grades K-12 by nourishing creativity and enlivening the spirit of the Mississippi Delta with such programs as school matinee programs and the development of the Janice Wyatt Summer Arts Institute; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the institutions of higher learning of our state, which provide the valuable resources proffered by education:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bologna Performing Arts Center for its excellence in the arts and for being the 2002 recipient of the Cultural Leadership Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the director of the Bologna Performing Art Center and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
