AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 19-3-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE OFFICES OF PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MAY BE ROTATED ANNUALLY AMONG THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD, WITH NO ONE MEMBER OF THE BOARD SERVING MORE THAN ONCE IN THE SAME OFFICE DURING THE SAME TERM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 19-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
19-3-7. The members of the board of supervisors, having given bond and taken the oath of office, shall meet at the courthouse of their county, on the first Monday in January next succeeding the election, and shall organize by electing one (1) of their number to be president, and by electing one (1) of their number to be vice president, and, being so organized, and attended by the sheriff and clerk, the board may proceed to discharge its duties. The offices of the president and vice president may be rotated annually among the membership of the board, with no one (1) member of the board serving more than once in the same office during the same term.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
