AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 63-3-119, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO CLARIFY WHICH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE AUTHORIZED TO ENFORCE TRAFFIC LAWS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 63-3-119, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
63-3-119. "Police officer" means every officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations. For the purpose of enforcing traffic laws, police officer shall not include conservation officers, law enforcement officers of the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks or law enforcement officers of the Bureau of Marine Resources.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
