A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED AND EXEMPLARY SERVICE OF BROTHER REX HENNEL.
WHEREAS, Brother Rex Hennel has devoted his life to the service of his faith and his fellowman; and
WHEREAS, Brother Rex Hennel took his final vows of poverty, chastity and obedience signifying his commitment to a life of service in 1941; and
WHEREAS, while en route to teach and minister to the people of Pakistan, Brother Rex Hennel was captured by the Japanese in 1941; and
WHEREAS, Brother Rex Hennel spent the next five years in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp; and
WHEREAS, while a Prisoner of War, Brother Rex Hennel ministered to the people in the Prisoner of War camps; and
WHEREAS, because Brother Rex Hennel is a man of tremendous faith with unwavering devotion to Christ, the Blessed Mother and his vows, he never lost faith, he never lost hope and was freed from the Prisoner of War camp on V-J Day in August of 1945; and
WHEREAS, Brother Rex Hennel served as Principal of Notre Dame High School in Biloxi, Mississippi, from 1948 to 1954; and
WHEREAS, while principal, Brother Rex Hennel was a mentor to many Mississippi boys and helped mold their character; and
WHEREAS, after leaving Notre Dame High School in Biloxi, Brother Rex Hennel served in various schools overseas in the foreign mission field; and
WHEREAS, after returning to the United States, Brother Rex Hennel served in various positions at the Holy Cross Mission Center, the Holy Cross Brothers Center and the Providence House at Notre Dame; and
WHEREAS, Brother Rex Hennel touched the lives and shaped the character of many young men of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend dedicated and exemplary service:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the dedicated and exemplary service of Brother Rex Hennel and wish him continued success in his endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Brother Rex Hennel.
