AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO
Senate Bill NO. 2963

AMEND on line 31 by inserting the word "Larger" before the word "Fraternal".
AMEND on line 37 by inserting after the comma the phrase: having more than Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) in total annual written premium,
AMEND on lines 39 and 1033 by inserting the word "larger" before the word "fraternal".
AMEND by deleting line 113 and the inserting in lieu thereof the following:
(i) "Society" shall mean larger fraternal benefit society as defined in Section 1 of this act,
AMEND by deleting lines 1067 and 1068, and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
fraternal societies as defined by Section 83-29-1 and larger fraternal benefit societies as defined in Section 1 of Senate Bill No. 2963, 2001 Regular Session.
AMEND by deleting lines 1129 and 1130, and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
not include fraternal societies as defined in Section 83-29-1 and larger fraternal benefit societies as defined in Section 1 of Senate Bill No. 2963, 2001 Regular Session.
AMEND by deleting lines 1137 through 1145 and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
SECTION 42. Section 83-29-1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
83-29-1. Any corporation, society, order, or voluntary association without capital stock, organized and carried on solely for the mutual benefit of its members and their beneficiaries and not for profit, and having less than Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) in total annual written premium, having a lodge system and representative form of government, or which limits its membership to a secret fraternity having a lodge system and representative form of government, and which shall make provision for the payment of benefits in accordance with Section 83-29-9 is hereby declared to be a fraternal benefit society.
FURTHER, AMEND the title to conform.
