AMENDMENT No. 1 TO AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO

House Bill NO. 620

Amend by striking all after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

SECTION 1. It shall be lawful for off-duty law enforcement officers to provide escort services for persons representing any public elementary or secondary school. The escort services shall be at the expense of the requesting public institution. The immunity and limitation of liability provided in Section 11-46-1, et seq. for law enforcement officers and governmental entities shall apply when such escort services are provided by off-duty law enforcement officers.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001, and stand repealed from and after July 2, 2001.

Further, amend by striking the title in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE OFF-DUTY OFFICERS TO ACT AS POLICE ESCORTS FOR TRAVELING GROUPS REPRESENTING PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
