AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO

Amend by striking all after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
SECTION 1. Section 97-37-11, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
97-37-11. Every merchant or dealer or pawnbroker that sells bowie-knives, dirk-knives, * * * brass or metallic knuckles * * *, or pistols or other firearms, shall keep a record of all sales of such weapons * * * sold, showing the description of the weapons * * *, the name of the purchaser, and the description of weapons * * * and date of sale; the record shall be maintained for five (5) years. * * * The dealer who violates this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be fined not less than Five Dollars ($5.00) nor more than Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00).
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
Further, amend by striking the title in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 97-37-11, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE REQUIREMENT FOR KEEPING RECORDS OF WEAPON AND AMMUNITION SALES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
