A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING JANE HEARN FOR HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PUBLIC HUMANITIES IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND UPON RECEIVING THE 2001 CHAIR'S AWARD FOR SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE HUMANITIES.
WHEREAS, Jane Hearn dared to dream of starting an art colony on the campus of Tougaloo College; and
WHEREAS, Jane Hearn and a small group of supporters, which included the Mississippi Humanities Council, initiated the first Tougaloo Art Colony in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Jane Hearn's commitment as Director of the Tougaloo Art Colony has resulted in the active participation of many renowned art scholars of national and international fame in activities on the campus of Tougaloo College; and
WHEREAS, art educators, students and persons from all walks of life have enjoyed and appreciated the creativity that has become synonymous with the Tougaloo Art Colony; and
WHEREAS, the Tougaloo Art Colony, Jane Hearn, Director, has been recognized by the Mississippi Humanities Council with the 2001 Chair's Award for Special Achievements in the Humanities:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Jane Hearn for her contributions to the public humanities in the State of Mississippi and upon receiving the 2001 Chair's Award for Special Achievements in the Humanities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to Jane Hearn and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
