Senate Concurrent Resolution 536
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO TAKE CERTAIN ACTIONS TO SUGGEST TO EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT EACH CAMPUS HAVE AT LEAST ONE PERSON TRAINED IN CPR AND THE HEIMLICH MANEUVER AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, our public schools have the care and custody of the majority of Mississippi's children during school hours of each school day; and
WHEREAS, serious injury and even death are possible results of choking and other breathing difficulties; and
WHEREAS, knowledgeable treatment that is swiftly delivered offers the best chance of survival in such situations; and
WHEREAS, it would be beneficial for school children to have readily available on their school campuses personnel who are trained to handle such emergencies:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That
we do hereby encourage the State Department of Education to suggest to the various public school districts that each campus have at least one person on staff trained to properly administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and the Heimlich maneuver.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution shall be delivered to the State Superintendent of Education and the State Board of Education.
