AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 39-3-359, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE AND DIRECT THE MISSISSIPPI LIBRARY COMMISSION TO IMPLEMENT AN ONLINE 24-HOUR ACCESS PROGRAM IN ALL PUBLIC LIBRARIES FOR COMPUTER-EQUIPPED HOUSEHOLDS AND BUSINESSES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 39-3-359, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
39-3-359. (1) The commission shall be the primary resource library for Mississippi public libraries and shall develop its collection accordingly. The commission shall provide services to libraries within the funds available and in keeping with the goal of efficient use of library resources in the state.
(2) The Mississippi Library Commission is authorized and directed to establish and implement a program to be called the "Mississippi Library Connection" to provide online 24-hour access to all public libraries in the state for computer-equipped households and businesses located in Mississippi, at no cost to the user.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
