A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE WATER VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY PROBLEM SOLVING TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.
WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team has participated in numerous projects involving helping veterans of World War II; and
WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team is a separate component of the Future Problem Solvers Program, which is a major part of the curriculum for the gifted humanities class that teaches students how to solve real world problems; and
WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team has devoted their time and service to the veterans of World War II through activities such as a graduation ceremony for local veterans who did not get a chance to graduate because they had to leave for war; a monument in honor of local veterans located in the Railroad Park in downtown Water Valley; donated money to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.; interviewed local veterans and compiled a book; organized a Veteran's Breakfast and Christmas Luncheon in honor of the veterans; constructed a patriotic float for the veterans to ride on during the annual Christmas parade; and visited the Veterans Nursing Home in Oxford, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, members of the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team include Jill Terry, Lee Ann Holt, Tracie Mathis, Ethan Bratton, Alana Reed, Penelope Stokes, Matt Weeks, Melissa Smith, Justin Brewer, Jessica West, Alita Wilson, Heather River, Chris McClusky, Carter White, Shayla Burgess, Tiffany Hille, Alan Cartwright, Lacey Harris, Dustin Welch, Andy Wright, Megan Edwards and Ashley Wilbourn; and
WHEREAS, each student has spent at least 50 hours of service outside the classroom on this special project throughout the school year; and
WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team has been led and inspired by their gifted humanities class teacher, Ms. Becky Terry; and
WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team won the 1999-2000 State Community Problem Solving Competition and the International Community Problem Solving Competition in Athens, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, on April 9 and 10, 2001, the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team will be competing in the State Community Problem Solving Competition at the University of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of this state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Water Valley High School Community Problem Solving Team and the teacher, Ms. Becky Terry, for their outstanding service to the Water Valley community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Becky Terry, Water Valley High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
