A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. LANA HOPKINS MOSS UPON BEING NAMED THE 2000-2001 CORINTH SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Ms. Lana Hopkins Moss was named the 2000-2001 Corinth School District Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Walnut High School, Ms. Moss attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and then the University of Mississippi, where she earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree in education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moss began her teaching career at Walnut Elementary School from 1972 to 1976, teaching second and third grade students and helped to establish and maintain an elementary library; and

WHEREAS, in 1976, Ms. Moss taught the second grade at the Alcorn Central Elementary School before going to teach at East Corinth Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moss has been a teacher at East Corinth Elementary School since 1980, teaching third grade, fourth grade and seventh grade during her tenure; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moss is an active member of several professional and community organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma, Lighthouse Foundation's At-Risk Elementary Students' Program and Tate Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being named the 2000-2001 Corinth School District Teacher of the Year, Ms. Moss has received numerous awards such as Teacher of the Year for East Corinth Elementary in 1995, Phi Delta Kappa Award for Excellence in Education in 1995, Who's Who Among American Teachers in 2000, the Teacher of the Year Award for East Corinth Elementary in 2000 and the American Legion Auxiliary Teacher Appreciation Award for 2001; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend and recognize outstanding educators such as Ms. Moss, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Lana Hopkins Moss upon being named the 2000-2001 Corinth School District Teacher of the Year and express our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Lana Hopkins Moss and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
