A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE BILOXI HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2000-2001 BASKETBALL SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Biloxi High School Indians Boys Basketball Team finished their 2000-2001 basketball season with an excellent record of 28 wins and ten losses; and

WHEREAS, the Indians gained the respect and credit they were due by funneling through the tough competition at the state play-offs and emerging as the Class 5A State Champions for the 2000-2001 season; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members for their outstanding play this season, including: Chey Christie, who was selected first team All-State and also recognized nationally by being honored as one of the top 50 players in the country; and Ashton Vereen and Tim Jones who were both selected second team All-State; and

WHEREAS, the Biloxi High School Indians have been superbly coached and inspired this season by Head Coach John Pugh and Assistant Coaches Joe Nelson and Sebec Windham, who have instilled in their players a will to win and have refined their skills in execution, resulting in a championship; and

WHEREAS, the Indians have fought through adversity and developed a winning and cooperative spirit which has propelled them to the Class 5A Championship ranks; in doing so, these men have exhibited a high degree of sportsmanship, and their attitude reflects great credit upon the individual players and coaches and brings honor to Biloxi High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Biloxi High School Indians Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach John Pugh and Assistant Coaches Joe Nelson and Sebec Windham for their outstanding 2000-2001 season, for winning the Class 5A State Championship and displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Biloxi High School, Head Coach John Pugh, Assistant Coaches Joe Nelson and Sebec Windham and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
