House Concurrent Resolution 122
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. FAYE GILBERT UPON BEING NAMED THE 2000 ELSIE M. HOOD OUTSTANDING TEACHER OF THE YEAR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Ms. Faye Gilbert, an associate professor of marketing, was named the 2000 Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the University of Mississippi is selected from nominations by students, alumni and faculty; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilbert earned an associate's degree from City Colleges of Chicago in West Germany in 1978; a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1982; a master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1983; and a doctorate degree from the University of North Texas in 1988; and
WHEREAS, in 1983, Ms. Gilbert began her teaching career at the University of Southern Mississippi as an instructor in the Department of Marketing; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, Ms. Gilbert went to the University of North Texas, where she served as a teaching fellow and lecturer for several years; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilbert returned to Mississippi in 1988, as an assistant professor in the Department of Marketing at the University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilbert joined the faculty at the University of Mississippi in June 1989 as an assistant professor of the Department of Management and Marketing; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilbert brought to her students a teaching philosophy strong on work ethic and responsibility as well as creative approaches to challenges presented by a constantly changing world; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Gilbert is active with her students outside the classroom, having initiated an Ole Miss student chapter of the American Marketing Association, the world's largest professional society in the field; and
WHEREAS, with research being the foundation of good teaching, Ms. Gilbert has published more than 60 articles, text supplements and conference papers since arriving at Ole Miss; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilbert is an active member of many professional organizations including the Society for Marketing Advances Association, the Southern Marketing Association, Southwestern Marketing Association and many others; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gilbert has been lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her husband, John; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding educators such as Ms. Gilbert, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Faye Gilbert upon being named the 2000 Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University of Mississippi and express our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Faye Gilbert and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
