A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DECLARING 2001 AS "THE YEAR OF THE MISSISSIPPI SMILE."
WHEREAS, Mississippi is home to a diverse population blending many cultures and traditions; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi is blessed with a variety of natural, cultural, industrial and educational resources; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi provides many avenues to success for its residents regardless of age, race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or veteran status; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi citizens have taken advantage of its many opportunities to become leaders in business, industry, entertainment, athletics, politics, the arts, public service, education and many other endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi is distinctive in that it is built upon the traditions of the past, the opportunities of today and the promises of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi is now in a unique position to utilize the educational materials and public awareness campaign produced by the members of Group 5 of the 2000-2001 Class of Leadership Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby declare 2001 as "The Year of the Mississippi Smile."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to members of the 2000-2001 Class of Leadership Mississippi and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
