House Concurrent Resolution 63

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SOUTHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Southaven High School Lady Chargers Volleyball Team finished the season with an outstanding record of 28 wins and only 7 losses, remaining undefeated against Mississippi schools with a perfect 24-0 record; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers Volleyball Team won the District 2, Class 5A Championship and the Class 5A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed among the players, including the naming of Jamie Cross, Lisa Jourdan, Mary Michael and Becky Getske to the All-District Tournament Team; the selection of Brooke Turner, Mary Michael and Jamie Cross to the All-County Team; the naming of Brooke Turner and Jamie Cross to the All-State Tournament Team; and the naming of Jamie Cross as DeSoto County Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Valerie Cagle and Assistant Coach Ruth Anne Gammell, who have broadened the players knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Southaven High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Southaven High School Lady Chargers Volleyball Team and Head Coach Valerie Cagle and Assistant Coach Ruth Anne Gammell for their outstanding season, for winning the Class 5A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Southaven High School, Head Coach Valerie Cagle, Assistant Coach Ruth Anne Gammell and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
