AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF PIKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO REGULATE THE RUNNING AT LARGE OF ANIMALS OF ALL KINDS WITHIN PIKE COUNTY BY PROVIDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF ALL NEEDFUL PENS, POUNDS AND BUILDINGS FOR THE USE OF THE COUNTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Board of Supervisors of Pike County, Mississippi, shall have the power to prevent or regulate the running at large of animals of all kinds within Pike County, and to cause any animal which may be running at large to be impounded and sold to discharge the costs and penalties provided for the violation of the regulations and the expense of impounding, keeping and selling the animal; to regulate and provide for the taxing of owners and harborers of dogs, and to destroy dogs running at large, unless the dogs have proper identification indicating that the dogs have been vaccinated for rabies; and to provide for the construction of all needful pens, pounds, and buildings for the use of the county; and to appoint and confirm keepers, and to establish and enforce rules governing the same.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
