AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE JUSTICE COURT OF SUNFLOWER COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AND THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF CERTAIN MUNICIPALITIES LOCATED WITHIN SUNFLOWER COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO IMPOSE ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS IN MISDEMEANOR CASES, THE AVAILS OF WHICH SHALL BE USED TO FUND SUNFLOWER COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS, INCORPORATED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Sunflower County, Mississippi, and the governing authorities of the municipalities of Inverness, Indianola, Moorhead, Ruleville, Drew and Sunflower, all of which are located within Sunflower County, Mississippi, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, may levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor filed in the justice court of Sunflower County, or in the municipal court of the aforementioned municipalities located in Sunflower County, Mississippi.
(2) The avails of any additional court costs imposed and collected pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly or at some other interval established by the appropriate governing authority to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Incorporated, for use in procuring information which will aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes.
(3) The provisions of this section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2002.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
