AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE TOWN OF MONTICELLO, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE MUNICIPAL COURT; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE PINE BELT CRIME STOPPERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the Town of Monticello, Mississippi, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, are authorized to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, in the amount of One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of such city.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid, on a monthly basis, by the town to Pine Belt Crime Stoppers for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Monticello, Mississippi.
(3) The provisions of this section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2002.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
