AN ACT TO CREATE A NEW CODE SECTION TO BE CODIFIED AS SECTION 39-23-9, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND COMMERCE MAY TRANSFER OR LEASE CERTAIN STATE-OWNED REAL PROPERTY LOCATED IN THE CITY OF JACKSON, HINDS COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO THE MISSISSIPPI CHILDREN'S MUSEUM; TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION TO CONSTRUCT, FURNISH AND EQUIP THE FACILITY FOR THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The following section shall be codified as Section 39-23-9, Mississippi Code of 1972:
39-23-9. As an alternative, the Mississippi Children's Museum may be located on that real property owned by the State of Mississippi and held by the Department of Agriculture and Commerce, which real property is located at the northeast intersection of Interstate 55 and Highway 25 in Jackson, Mississippi. The Department of Finance and Administration may construct, furnish and equip such facility as provided in Section 39-23-5. The grant to the Mississippi Children's Museum may be in the form of a conveyance of the fee or a lease of the property for a term not to exceed thirty (30) years. Fair market value shall be paid to the Department of Agriculture and Commerce for the grant.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
