AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 8, CHAPTER 158, LAWS OF 1884, AS AMENDED, TO INCREASE THE PER DIEM AND MILEAGE ALLOWANCE FOR COMMISSIONERS OF THE YAZOO-MISSISSIPPI DELTA LEVEE BOARD; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 8, Chapter 158, Laws of 1884, as amended, is amended as follows:

Section 8. * * * The Board of Levee Commissioners for the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta shall hold their regular meetings at their domicile, which is * * * the county seat of Tunica County on the first Monday in July and in January in each year, and at such other times as they may appoint and as often as they may be called together by the president, on notice to be published in some newspaper in the district for ten (10) days, and also by written notice mailed to each member of the board by the president or secretary. Each commissioner attending a meeting of the board shall be entitled to One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) a day for each day of attendance and reimbursement for mileage and actual expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties at the rate authorized for state employees under Section 25-3-41, Mississippi Code of 1972, to be paid out of the levee fund on the order of the president, countersigned by the secretary. * * * At each of the meetings, a majority of the members of the board shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
